From what I've seen there are a number of byu fans who don't like that trade-off
Essentially trading a few million a year and giving up on competing for a NY6 bowl game (more attainable than playoff/NC) which would be possible in the AAC/MWC. So you have a few more dollars, but no path to the common CFB goals of other teams. That's a tough sell for some people.
