I’ve had my role change within my department last year. Due to company policy, my title and pay was unable to change until the start of the next year. I waited and waited, and it took until May of this year to get the approval. Before it ever got approved, my boss left the company, and my new boss had no idea how to handle this new role, as it hadn’t existed before and was created for me. I’ve been in it officially for 6 months and it’s been miserable.

A job in another department opened up a month ago that was more reflective of my old role, one I liked, and it was higher up the pay grade scale, so I applied. I interviewed for the job with my new boss’s endorsement and the boss of the open position loved me and wanted to hire me immediately.

HR comes back and says I can’t because company policy dictates I can’t change jobs if I have been in my current role for less than a year... the open position needed to be filled quickly and likely isn’t going to be around in 6 months when I’ve ‘officially’ hit my year.

To top the cake, every year our Christmas bonuses were given out in December, and they wait to tell us now that we won’t get them til February of next year.


This sucks.
