1. 8 teams, no auto bids.
2. P5 conference champs get in as long as they meet the following criteria:
- win their conference championship
- schedule at least 1 non-conference P5 and G5 team
- win at least 10 games
3. Give the G5 a bid if the team has done the following:
- gone undefeated
- won their conference championship
- played a P5 team
4. At large teams chosen by a BCS-like formula
5. Seeds playoff teams 1-8 with the BCS-like formula
6. Four NY6 bowls can be used in the quarter-finals, the other two in the semis, and just call the final the championship
I like this format for the following reasons:
- gives the G5 a shot at the playoff
- doesn’t guarantee a bid to an undeserving conference champ or G5 team
- regular season games remain extremely important... the more teams you add to a playoff, the less meaningful September games become
- removes the committee from the playoff... no place for bias in deciding who plays for a championship
