I'm not a basketball aficionado, so I'm asking for real, I've heard the non-conference games referred to as preseason a lot and don't understand it.

To me, preseason = exhibition or games that don't count, but these games clearly count toward the total win/loss at the end of the season so preseason doesn't make sense.
