were a few outliers, both on the pessimistic and optimistic sides.) BYU went 7-5. Most people anticipated that they'd start out 0-4 (myself included), or at best, 1-3. After USF, at 2-4, I think most people were anticipating another catastrophe like 2017. Then they won the next five in a row.
Is 7-5 awesome? No. But is it worth stroking out over? No.
Is Kalani the best coach in America? Nope. But the best coach in America wouldn't take the job- even if Tom offered. The 30th best coach in America wouldn't take it. The job description comes with A LOT more than just coaching football. Maybe Hill doesn't even want the job- even though it's unequivocally a higher profile job than Weber State. He's got a pretty good team at Weber and makes decent money. His wife has battled health issues. Maybe he doesn't want the aggravation that comes with BYU, the HC, the BOT, and the fans- who always have very reasonable expectations.
Kalani is the guy. He's gonna be the guy for a while. And some of the future schedules are going to be more brutal than anything we've seen. Some frustrating losses are inevitable. Such would be the case if Bronco was still here- or Niumatalolo- or even Whit. But I think Kalani is going to do good things, and we'll also see some exciting and even unexpected wins as well. Who knows?
Slow your roll. The sky isn't falling.
