The idea that Kalani was testing his coaches makes sense.
There were many times during the game on Saturday where it was very clear on Kalani's face that he was annoyed with the play calling. You could almost see him asking "Why did we run that defense?" or "Why that offensive play call?" without directly asking those questions. I saw in him the sense that he knew better but was holding back.
Because of this, I can absolutely get behind the idea that he was testing his coaches. Specifically I think he was trying to see what Tuiaki was doing and what he had learned. Honestly, I think Kalani will let Tuiaki go after this season. He'll keep a position in BYU football if he wants it, but he's not going to be the D-coordinator.
