Strength of schedule problem
I don’t fully understand how strength of schedule is calculated. The CFP Committee seems to say that wins over other top 25 teams are especially considered. So last week, Oklahoma had a game against them-#21 Oklahoma State. Then this week after they beat the Cowboys, it was mentioned how lucky they were that Oklahoma State stayed in the top 25.

If they had arbitrarily been ranked #26, then suddenly it wouldn’t have counted as a quality win?

What was Oklahoma supposed to do? Win, but keep it kind of close so that Oklahoma State wouldn’t drop so far?

At some point of the season—maybe after the first rankings are released—we know who the good teams are. If you beat a top 10 team and they fall out of the top 10, it should still count as a win over a top 10 team. (Or if you beat a top 25 team. Or whatever).

I don’t know if I’ve thought this all the way through, but if you beat a team, the strength of that win should be based on what that opponent would be ranked without the L you gave them.

So let’s say BYU were somehow undefeated and handed Boise State their only loss. Would that win over Boise be counted as a win over “just” a top 25 team? Or should everyone say that Boise State would’ve been a top 10 team without the loss to BYU, so BYU’s win over them should count as a top 10 win?
