I'm bored. Tell me about your favorite guitar and/or gun. Every man should have at least 1 of each.

i have lots of guns and several nice guitars. Does that mean i use them a lot? No. No, it doesn't. I have great intentions, but most of the time they just sit there. I still love them and love to talk about them, so let's hear what you've got that you really enjoy.

Favorite gun? Easy. My dad's (well, mine now) Winchester pump action .22. It's a model 62A and my dad bought it new when he was 18, maybe 65 years ago. Before i was born, my family moved to California and that rifle stayed at our cousin's ranch in Idaho. Dad didn't want that rifle in the house in California. When I was 14 or so, my dad and i were visiting that same Idaho ranch. Dad asked my uncle if they happened to still have it around. (To this point, i didn't even know that rifle existed.) Uncle says yes, it does exist, and we use it all the time. Goes in and brings back this old .22. He told us that that .22 had killed thousands of rock chucks over the years and was their go-to .22. They had forgotten where it came from and didn't realize it was dad's. That old beat up Winchester can still shoot the eye out of a mosquito at 100 yards. It's a rifle built the way they are supposed to be built - solid steel, wood, and grit. I wouldn't give that gun up for anything. In fact, it might be my most prized "thing" that I own.

I have since used that rifle a ton and put another countless imaginary hash marks in the stock for all sorts of pests that met their demise because of this thing. It even put a hole through my bedroom wall when i was 16 or so, but that's another story.

Favorite guitar?

Now I'm not as adamant about guitars being as necessary as guns to be a real man, but it sure helps. Another caveat: i can't really play guitar well, but that doesn't stop me from collecting them. One of these days I'll get around to it. I keep hoping that buying different guitars will somehow make me a better player, but for some strange reason that hasn't happened yet. My favorite is a Gibson semi-hollow CS-356. It is drop dead gorgeous and it plays just as good as it looks. It even sounds great when it's not plugged in. The color is orange drop and it's got a beautiful flame maple top on it. I sold some guns i had been holding onto to be able to afford it years ago, and i'm glad I did. It's a great guitar. Very versatile and i can get a lot of different tones out of it - anything from les paul ooomph to jazzy twang and blues.

The rifle and the guitar are opposites, in a way. The rifle is old and beat up and doesn't have a lot of monetary value, but i can shoot lights out with that thing. I'd go as far as to all myself an expert with that rifle in my hands. The guitar, on the other hand, is worth quite a bit of $, but I can't play it worth a darn. I'm still an intermediate level guitarist. There are many guys that have $50 guitars that can play 100Xs better than i could ever dream of playing, but i enjoy the guitar and every time i get it out it makes me smile. It smells good and looks good and plays good and it will eventually go to one of my sons.

This isn't my exact guitar, but it looks just like this. I stole this pic from the interwebs.
