I thought a backcourt violation was when someone who had control of the ball
loses it without the other team touching it and then goes backcourt. But if the other team knocks it out of possession, it doesn't matter who touched it last. Isn't that right? Or am I wrong on that?

Yeah, I guess I don't know the rule, but that confused me too. The Utah guy knocked it out of our guy's hands
