Most of the people around the country likely never saw much of a Utah football game this year. Most were on the glorious pac-12 network or late at night. There were rumblings in the media that there was this team out west with a lights-out defense and enough offense to cause problems for anyone in the country. The last few weeks as Alabama faltered and the stage became set for Utah to have a chance to break into the playoff picture, more media types talked about Utah as it became possible that even if they won out they could get jumped by Oklahoma. Is it possible for Utah to get snubbed? Shouldn’t the country start paying attention to this hidden gem in the Rocky Mountains?

Friday night comes around and Fowler and herbstreit introduce millions of footballs fans to this Cinderella team that hasn’t gotten the respect they’ve deserved and has been talked about and talked up for weeks now, although nobody has still really seen them play outside of some highlights on sports center. “Let’s see what all the fuss is about” or “There must be something to all this chatter about the Utes” many fans across the country were undoubtedly saying heading into the game.

In 2021 or 2022 or whenever Whitt gets a good crew of seniors together and makes a run, the only thing voters and fans will be thinking is that they’ve seen this show before and it doesn’t end well.
