I had a really great week!
I have been in my position for three years. When I got here, things were OK, but there was a lot of low hanging fruit and I had a really bad "cancer" on my team. With process improvements and opportunities that arose through natural attrition, I have cut my staff down from 14 to 11, and everyone is working a lot less hours. We have a great team that works really well together.

This week, I sit down with my direct reports and go over their annual goals, and calculate their annual bonuses. In addition, I ask each person to give me some ideas how we can improve our department, or how we can improve the company. I got some great feedback from my folks, but the thing that made my week were two of the comments I received (after I told them what their bonus was - I know how toxic thinking some of y'all are):

From one of my controllers, who is retiring on January 31, she told me that she has never been happier in her entire career and is disappointed that it is happening at the very end. She is a great employee and we are really going to miss her.

From my CIO (can I tell you how much I dislike being responsible for IT - so many threats) who is not a very demonstrable kind of guy, he told me he is so thankful for my leadership, because I empower and inspire people. He said I make him want to be better and he wants to come into work each day. (I admit - I have received lots of compliments from people, but that may be the best one ever, especially from that guy...I inspire people...wow)

So, bottom line, I am feeling like a million bucks this morning!!! It is nice to have good days to offset some of the bad ones we have! Everyone can make a difference!
