As the playoff is structured now all FBS teams have an "equal" shot to start at making the playoff. It just so happens the magic formula heavily favors P5 teams and their perception of power.

Any playoff that includes all conference champions needs to include all FBS conference champions to be sound against a lawsuit.

However, if they made it all conference champions that were ranked in the top-15 or top-25 they could effectivly exclude a lot of the G5 champs like they want to and then blame the formula that the SunBelt champ gets left out every year. So, it seems like this may be a viable option.

I personally would like a 12 team playoff with 2 at large bids and all 10 conference champs. Have 4 "play-in" games to get to the top 8. But the P5 leadership doesn't want even an outside shot a G5 team wins the whole thing, so it will never happen.
