The key to making the tournament for BYU has been
avoiding bad losses - defined by un-tiered games on kenpom.

The last year they made the tournament (2015), they only had one of those losses (home vs Pepperdine). In the four year since, they've had 3, 4, 3 and 4.

It's ok if you have them, as long as you offset them with Tier A wins. In 2014, they had 2 of those losses - a Sat-Mon opening conference road trip where they lost at Pepperdine and LMU.

But, they offset that with 5 Tier A wins (with 6 Tier A losses). That is a pretty decent record in those games. They've been 3-22 in those games the past 4 years.

So far, we're 1-1 in Tier A games. We're 100% in un-tiered games. Our biggest threats in un-tiered games are at Pacific (ranked 176th on Pomeroy), at LMU (177th) and at USD (178th). Crazy that those three teams are clustered like that.
