I thought Arrival was good but not amazing
My main issues:
- Twist element didn't make sense.
- Like Inception, it tried to mine emotional depth from the loss of a child, but the child was never really a character, so it wasn't very compelling in that regard or as a portrait of grief.
- The dad bailing was dumb
- I hate the excessive blue tint. That kind of thing rarely ages well.

Nothing in Jeremy Renner's portrayal of that character led me to believe he'd do what he did offscreen in the "future"
