Sure but banks protect the investment by making sure certain financial criteria are met.
Apparently this is for people who don't qualify for traditional mortgages making them less able to deal with the fallout. It's the Clinton mentality of getting everyone in a home regardless of financial position.

It is possible on the low end homes like you mentioned. And if you can afford home in the range it won't take long
