watching some saved videos. It was my first Holiday Bowl, and my old man taught me something that sticks w/ me to this day. First, SMU looked like an NFL team, we could barely slow em' down. Some Y fans were complaining and started leaving, and my sister was complaining to leave.

Serious as I ever saw him, he turned to us "You die w/ your boots on, and you never quit, you never say die. If our guys down there can keep fighting like this, no way we abandon them to get home a few minutes earlier. And you never whine, you never make excuses no matter what. You win like a man, and you lose like a man. Graciously." That seriously stuck w/ me to this day. Right about then, McMahon refused to come out on 4th down to punt, he said "See, see. He refuses to give up, and if he loses, you'll hear no excuses or whining from him. That's Jimmy Mac, that's my guy right there."

People came rushing back in, or hanging around outside that said "We won, what? We won." The old man's response, "Don't worry, you only missed the best game in history so you could get back to the hotel 5 min. earlier." He wasn't following his gracious advice, but man it irked him, and it cracked us all up. He musta said 5 different times to Y fans surprised we won after they bailed.
