Before I read your comment I was going to suggest something a bit different. If Hypnotoad has line of sight to any friends/family with better internet, get a couple of these: https://www.ui.com/airmax/nanobeam-ac-gen2/

I currently share internet with my mom using those. We are only a couple hundred feet apart, but those things have very good range (10+ km)
