Personally, I wish Ed Orgeron was our coach.
But he's not.

We don't know if we could get Ed Orgeron if the BYU head coach didn't have to be LDS. We do know that Ken Niumatololo was interviewed for the BYU job and was not hired. We also know that Niumatololo is one of about five current D 1 head coaches who comprise the entire pool of potential head football coaches at BYU.

We don't know whether Niumatololo would be a better HC at BYU than Kalani Sitake is. We do know that BYU has certain restrictions regarding its coaching staff and its players that even the service academies don't have. We don't know what kind of offense Niumatololo would have run, nor whether it would be successful at BYU.

The head coaching carousel doesn't address the heart of the issue - BYU has a lot of restrictions in place that limit the pool of coaches and players. If BYU wants to be serious about competing in major college football, they need to do something about those, rather than cycle through the very limited pool of coaching candidates.
