It would have to hit them beyond the line of scrimmage. Higher probabliltiy that
You hit your own player and it turns into a really short punt. Nobody does it because its not worth the risk. Same thing with kickoffs and trying to kick it directly I to somebody. Not with the risk of it just being a short kick.
