Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you are saying is basically kick a line drive at a member of the return team that is blocking the gunner. Ball bounces off of them and the kicking team recovers it?

So, assuming that's what you are saying, kicking a line drive as a punter that would go fast enough and low enough that the blocker could not have time to react, what are the odds:
1. Getting it over the line that is looking to block the punt
2. That it would bounce off a blocker, blocking on the edge and stay in bounds
3. That it would be recovered by the kicking team

I'd say, go for it on 4th down. Much easier.
