As someone who has sold life insurance I can tell you a pipe or cigar smoker is not charged "tobacco" rates when someone who smokes cigarettes, chews tobacco, vapes nicotine or smokes marijuana is charged tobacco rates.

One thing I can tell you for certain if there was no difference then life insurance companies would certainly not be charging differently for those that smoke a pipe/cigar.

I can't specifically tell you why but I am reassured that all those actuaries and medical people who help make up the rules for life insurance policies are not going to be that wrong about it...particularly if it could make them more money.
