It’s about lining up in ways that the O-line is confused about whom they should block. Almost all defenses have evolved to this on one level or another and we seem to be way behind the curve. Way behind.
When we don’t have horses that can straight up beat someone it seems confusion would be the best tactic. It’s the reason offenses with limited skilled players employ the triple option, double wing, wing-t, etc. Same should apply to defense I would think.
San Diego State doesn’t have any better players than we do and they gave us a clinic on defensive strategy with mid-level athletes.
