Just learned about a new internet scam.......
So I'm selling a car on Craigslist. It's an older (2009) car that my daughter had been driving. I get a handful of texts almost immediately after posting it. When I respond to the 1st one, he asks if I can go to vehicle history report and get a "VIN report" on the car. So I get the VIN# and go to the site, and there's a $20 fee for running the report. I respond to him that I'm willing to run the report if he's going to come out and see the car - after that he stops texting. Shortly after that, I get an email from a buyer asking if the car has a clean title. I respond that I've got a Carfax from the used car dealer I bought it from that shows it's clean. He responds "Actually, you should run a VIN report to be sure. It will help your car sell MUCH faster, and only costs $20! Well worth the money!"

So now, I've decided that these "VIN reports" are just a scam to get you to shell out $20 in order to "entice" a buyer who isn't really interested in your car. Turns out - it's even worse than that. I checked with the local BBB, and they said that many of these sites are actually designed to steal your credit card info.

So, if your selling a car online, beware. Super. Duper. Lame.
