I think the requirement is significant life accomplishments, not specifically sports accomplishments
besides pro sports, if the individual becomes a major philanthropist or important businessman or General Authority

here's another retired jersey Roland Minson who didn't do much in the pros (interrupted by Korean War and did other stuff when he got back) but had other accomplishments
