I agree 100% with everything you said. Losing weight requires a lifestyle
change and self discipline which can be difficult for people but it doesn't have to be major sweeping changes all at once.

I'm 6'3". I weighed 275 at my very heaviest. I was on the verge of having diabetes. Here's what I did (a dietician got me started and I handled the rest):

1. I made weight loss and exercise goals that were realistic and achievable (IIRC my weight loss goal was to lose 1.5 lbs a week-nothing extreme)
2. Started exercising (jogging on a treadmill, lifting weights, hiking - things I enjoyed doing)
3. Started being more physically active in general (taking stairs instead of elevators, walking to campus instead of taking the shuttle, parking a little farther away and walking)
4. Reduced (not eliminated) my carb intake at the recommendation of the dietician
5. Increased my protein intake
6. Switched gradually from regular soda to diet

IIRC it took me about a year to get down to a healthy comfortable weight. I've been able to maintain my lower weight for years because I turned everything in the list above into part of my lifestyle so I do these things now without even really thinking about it.

I still have the occasional pig out where I eat an entire medium Domino's pizza in one sitting or I go to Chuck A Rama and "get my money's worth" but then the next day I get back on track with the exercise and eating and it really doesn't affect me too much.
