And all the other training. My issue with the BSA is that there is waaay too much overhead. My troop was composed of mostly single parents or lower income children who could not afford scout camp. It’s cost are too inflated.
Additionally, they spent way too much time on adult recognition and giving leaders awards. This is a volunteer organization and the focus should be on the boys.
Finally, I don’t think it teaches kids how to survive in the woods anymore. For example, the approved BSA method doesn’t teach how to chop wood, only to split it (ax must always be in contact with the log. If it separates the adult leader must drive it back into the wood).
There’s a lot of good in scouting but the BSA became too political and too suburban for my taste.
