While arguing back and forth in silly debate this morning, I bumped right past my 50000th post.
I had hoped for something more meaningful on a milestone, like TNT's classic personal post, or monkeycowboy's inspiring personal journey. I whiffed.

So, at number 50005, let me try to do a little better. I don't have the quality of material to compare to theirs, but I'm on some poignant anniversaries for my family right now.

Today marks 9 years since my (then) 11-yo daughter rushed to Primary Children's in an ambulance with a serious case of DKA--it was the first manifestation of Type I diabetes. As I spent a worried night with my daughter in the PICU, Cougarboard came through in a huge way for us. We got a call from Jackson Emery (her favorite player), we got a huge box of swag from BYU basketball, and an invitation for all my kids to come see a Basketball practice. My daughter, my wife and I all were grateful to so many cougarfans on CB--most anonymous--as well as BYU athletics for their kindness to us. I remember very clearly my very sick girl sobbing, "They don't even know me, but they're being so nice."

My daughter is now 20, and is between her junior and senior years at BYU. That was the only university she wanted to attend, though she really had many options. She bleeds blue, goes to all the basketball and football games, and loves the university. This is the right place.

Tomorrow is the 4th anniversary of my mom's passing. She suffered with dementia for about 4 years, before she finally passed away peacefully. It was a difficult time, as you can imagine, and I was really grateful to be able to take my mind off things for a little while with many of my fake internet friends here. Again, several people here were very kind to me and my family, even though they don't know us in real life.

My family hasn't been the only benefactor of CB kindness. Over my almost 16 years, and through 50005 posts, I have seen a lot of idiocy--much of it from me--but the overriding feeling I have is there are some good people doing a lot of good things for people they don't know, and without any recognition. You help, you're kind, you're compassionate because this is a community with good people in it. Even those who occasionally suck. Even the Ute fans.
