I built my home in 2001...
Moved in the week between Christmas and New Years 2001. I will make my last payment next month so it has taken me just over 18 years.

For me it was what I wanted. I wanted to own my home outright so that at minimum if things went bad for me financially my family would have a house and a place to be.

The fact that I will no longer have a payment is also a great feeling.

I am sure you’ll get replies telling you why you shouldn’t pay it off early but I’ll disagree with all of them. I personally think that owning your home outright gives you a peace of mind and a level of stability that is worth more than those dollars being in the bank or invested elsewhere.
