Anecdotally, Cary Elwes & Chris Sarandon have noted films popularity for Mormons
According to Sarandon and Elwes, Mormons love “The Princess Bride.”https://variety.com/2017/film/features/the-princess-bride-turns-30-1202565060/
“I was in Salt Lake City recently,” noted Sarandon. “I met the Attorney General of Utah. He said, ‘Do you know that in every home in Utah, there is a video, a DVD, and a Blu-Ray of the ‘Princess Bride’? It’s the most popular movie in the state of Utah.'”
He believes the Mormons love the film because “it has good values to it. You know, it’s a message about love.”
Granted, they're conflating "Mormons" with "Utah resident" a bit here. I recall an article where Cary Elwes saying something to that effect at SLC ComicCon. Maybe its a case of perception driving reality, but even film's stars seem to think there's something to the idea of Mormons liking Princess Bride more than most
