Thoughts on this new way of doing "onside kicks"?

Basically after you score a TD or FG, you get the ball back with a "4th and 15" from your own 25. You get one offensive play to get that 15 yards, and if you get the first down, you get to keep the ball. If you do not, your opponent gets the ball where the play ends.

NFL to experiment with alternative to onside kick at Pro Bowl

The NFL will try out an onside kick alternative at the Pro Bowl, giving teams the option to run an additional play after scoring.

Just silly. No team should have the ability of getting the ball back after scoring without earning it.

For a single play. I guess they also have the ball on the kickoff, they just have to be able to catch it after 10 yards.

I agree- but I think that the argument was that they HAVE possession at that point already, did not earn possession

I disagree. On a 4th and 15 the defense could be called for any number of penalties

It needs to be an extreme risk, but have the chance of success that onside kicks had before the rule change.

I think it's a great idea to use the pro-bowl or an all-star game (baseball/basketball) to test out new rule ideas.

I like it. I suspect they'll get rid of kickoffs eventually with this as well. You get the ball at the 25 4th and 15.
