Voices From Chernobyl

Almost finished with this book. It's a very raw collection of experiences from people who experienced the accident including those who cleaned up (liquidators). Highly recommend. It won the Nobel Prize in 2015.

Here's an example:

"We came home. I took off all the clothes that I'd worn there and threw them down the trash chute. I gave my cap to my little son. He really wanted it. And he wore it all the time. Two years later they gave him a diagnosis: a tumor in the brain...You can write the rest of this yourself. I don't want to talk anymore."

I had no idea Belarus got it so bad. Most of the fallout landed there. 20% of their current annual budget goes towards Chernobyl related costs. 20% of the farming land is gone.
