depends on the city you live in and the school district you are living in
And it varies a little year by year. It is made up of City taxes, School taxes, County taxes and local Community college taxes. Mine this year combined was right around 2.2%. So, just take your appraised property value (which changes each year) and multiply by 2.2% and you'll get a ball park of the taxes you will need to pay each year for property taxes.

So, 300K home value where I live would be paying about $6600 in taxes this year.

Remember, we don't have state income tax in TX, but we do have pretty steep property taxes. You can look up the history of property taxes in the different cities, counties school districts in the state, so you can get an estimate on what your taxes will be like wherever you decide to live (and it usually is a big factor for people to decide which city to live in). Some cities can be down as low as 1.8-2.0% and 2.3%+ would be on the more expensive side around here.
