I have the 4 and really like it.
The battery life is just okay, but I like everything else about it. I believe the 4xl has better battery life, if you're willing to go that route.
That being said, I've owned the Pixel and the Pixel 2xl, as well as the Nexus 4 and 5, so I can't fully compare to Samsung's phones. I never liked Samsung's skin on the OS when testing them out, so I've always gone with phones having vanilla Android.
