You make it sound like the NBA was completely bereft of stars during Kobe’s time, but I think some of those guys might think otherwise.

Kobe was huge, but there’s no need to oversell him. Doing so would be a disservice as then some people feel a need to correct the record rather than just focus on who he was right now.
