She’s right except for the tip unless you leave icky stuff in the hotel room.
it makes sense to clean your home before a cleaner comes so they can focus on deep cleaning.

I don’t know about your wife but sometimes people can feel like a failure when they have to call cleaner in. Maybe cleaning up slightly also helps them feel less embarrassed they had to call a cleaner if they aren’t used to doing it.

Also I think it’s a smart idea to clean your hotel room lightly before you leave so you can make sure you didn’t leave anything behind. I probably wouldn’t leave at $10 tip unless it was unusually dirty.

As you mentioned it’s best just to support someone rather than argue over misc cleaning.
