Like yeah, having the pitcher bat or bunt in the 2nd or 3rd inning just sucks. It's probably the worst part of the NL. And it's frustrating to see RISP wasted in the early innings.
Things I like about the NL rule, however:
(1) The mid-inning dilemma and roll of the dice of whether to bench your starting pitcher for the chance at an early game lead.
(2) Opposing teams trying to force the other manager to bench the pitcher and rely on their bullpen for 4+ innings.
(3) More late-game comebacks because of successfully forcing the other team to rely on their bullpen for 4+ innings.
(4) The excitement when the pitcher gets a hit and a pitcher is now faced with the 1-2-3 batters with RISP.
(5) Pitchers that can hit can be a huge advantage (e.g., Bumgarner - Ohtani would be huge in the NL).
(6) I'd rather have more late-game runs that you see in the NL than early-game runs that you see in the AL.
IMO, the difference in excitement between the two leagues is exaggerated. The AL averages like 0.1 more runs/game than the NL. And bullpens are more important in the NL, which adds a lot of tension to the game and (IMO) is exciting in it's own way.
