Did I go too far?
Not sure what category it falls under.

Back in Oct or Nov our company announced staff layoffs. Everyone was really nervous. I thought I was ok but you never know, especially when they said it had nothing to do with productivity. Employees were given until the end of the year before they were laid off so there was some warning. They would also receive a severance based on company policy.

fast forward to a couple of weeks a go, I had a 1 on 1 session with my boss. We were discussing a lot of different things and she mentioned that I should look at my first paystub for the year and make sure everything looked ok. She looked at hers and her check was too high. Our employee forgot to deduct her benefits. She called HR and asked why they didn’t deduct her benefits. The HR lady asked my boss, “Why do you think we need to keep paying out your benefits?” All my boss could say as she got nervous was “Why do you think you shouldn’t keep paying my benefits?”

It turns out that there is another employee with the same name as my boss who was let go but HR terminated my boss at the end of last year. They were essentially paying her severance. The crazy thing was HR kept thinking my boss was crazy and kept arguing with her. It made my boss really nervous but everyone who was let go was notified back in Oct-Nov.

Well, come to today I went in to say hello when I got in. She was beyond frustrated as all of her systems access was shut down. She couldn’t log in to her computer let alone any of the systems we use. I thought I couldn’t let this opportunity go to waste.

I went and bought a cake and a card. I had everybody in the building sign the card and write her a note(about 30 people). When I gathered everyone after lunch outside her office her husband walked in to come visit her. Even more perfect. When she came out of her office everyone started clapping. We presented her with a retirement cake(it had a picture of a can that alp said, “Canned”. A coworker of hers came up and put her arm around her and said, “ you’re gonna land on your feet real soon.”

We all had a good laugh. There was two dollars in the card. She handed it to me in front of everyone and said, “You’re gonna need it.”

Might be my last day, but it was the best $30 I’ve spent on a gag.
