Check this graph of the average wRC+ by year of pitchers, and compare it to the lowest position, catchers. These are not similar.

Chris Davis, one of the worst hitters in baseball, last year had a wRC+ of 58.
The average pitcher? -18. (This is on a scale where 0 is 100% worse than league average.)
There were 5 pitchers in the entire sport with 30+ PAs and a higher wRC+ than Davis, the worst hitter in the game.
These are not comparable things.
