BYU according to 247 sports, is sitting with the #72 class.
There were 7 G5 teams who had a higher class ranking than BYU for 2020:
Cinci 47
Boise 65
Tulane 66
ECU 67
Toledo 68
UCF 69
L. Tech 71
BYU 72
This is a slight improvement over the past two classes:
BYU was 16th in 2019 out of the G5 group
BYU was 13th in 2018 out of the G5 group
Observations:
- BYU's recruiting took an immediate hit when they went Indy. This board likes to attribute that to Utah joining the Pac12. Im sure SOME of that could be true.. but how Boise beats BYU in recruiting year in and year out is a real problem and can't be placed on Utah's transition.
- Indy / Tough Schedules does NOT = recruiting top talent.
- Winning = recruiting. Boise, UCF, Cinci show this to be true. Can BYU win enough as Indy? The past 10 years clearly show that answer to be a decisive NO. With even harder schedules coming up, I don't see any light at the end of this tunnel for BYU.
- BYU is doing something very wrong if they arent bringing in better talent than Toledo, Tulane, ECU. All of these teams have to go against P5's, Big10, SEC teams. Boise hits Cali hard. There is no excuse for BYU here. Utah being P5 is a terrible excuse when you consider who these other G5 teams are running up against.
