Should I be bummed Uconn is scheduling as well as us?
Disclaimer: perhaps I'm easy to please but I've been impressed with our quality of schedules during independence. I attribute this perceived scheduling success to Tom's wizardry and connections. But I just compared our schedule to newly indy Uconn and now I'm wondering if I've overestimated our AD's scheduling prowess.

I gauge our schedules on 4 things.
Number of P5 games (the higher the better)
Number of Home P5 games (the higher the better)
Number of P5 games not played in September (the higher the better)
And number of trash can opponents, eg, Liberty (the fewer the better)

Note: Having solid non-P5 matchups is critical too (the Houstons and Boises and UCFs of the world), but I figure those aren't hard to schedule so I don't 'reward' our AD for getting those on the books.

Anyway, here's how we compare to Uconn over the next four years in these categories

2020
Number of P5 games: BYU 6, Uconn 5
Number of Home P5 games: BYU 2, Uconn 1
Number of P5 games not in September: BYU 2, Uconn 2
Number of Trash Can opponents: BYU 1, Uconn 4

2021
Number of P5 games: BYU 7, Uconn 2
Number of Home P5 games: BYU 3, Uconn 1
Number of P5 games not in September: BYU 4, Uconn 1
Number of Trash Can opponents: BYU 2, Uconn 2

2022
Number of P5 games: BYU 4, Uconn 4
Number of Home P5 games: BYU 2, Uconn 2
Number of P5 games not in September: BYU 2, Uconn 1
Number of Trash Can opponents: BYU 2, Uconn 1

2023
Number of P5 games: BYU 4, Uconn 4
Number of Home P5 games: BYU 1, Uconn 2
Number of P5 games not in September: BYU 1, Uconn 1
Number of Trash Can opponents: BYU 1, Uconn 2

With the exception of 2021 (which is BYU's GOAT scheduling season), Uconn is staying pretty close to us scheduling wise, and that's with us having a ten-year head start. Have I overestimated Tom's skills? Can we get Uconn's AD to give us his contact list as a trade for playing them 5 or 6 times a decade? Or are name teams more willing to schedule Uconn because Uconn is a trash can? I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts.

One other variable: Uconn still has a number of games to fill out in 2021 and beyond. If they fill those slots with trash cans I will feel better, but if they boost their schedule with even more big names I'll be sad
