I was looking at some bracket projections and wandering off into the weeds with my internet search. I ran across a projected bracket with an interesting comment about BYU. The outfit that put the bracket projection out commented that BYU doesn't fit in to any of the 8/9 slots due to the no-Sunday play rule. They had BYU projected as the lowest #8 seed, and to make the bracket work, they either had to move BYU up one line to a #7 seed or down 2 lines to a #10 seed.
The way I interpreted the comment is that it's already known what matchups will occur in which cities (i.e., St. Louis will get the 2/15 and 7/10, or Spokane will get the 1/16 and 8/9 games) and on what dates. I can find which host sites are Thur/Sat hosts and which are Fri/Sun host sites, but I'm not finding anything about whether specific matchups are already assigned to specific cities.
Does anyone know how the assignments are made? Also, how could someone know that BYU can't fit on the bracket as an 8 or 9 seed? If true, this is ideal because we'd avoid playing a #1 seed in the second round.
