Division Bell All-American
I remember when Coach Rose first took over. He brought an intensity and
excitement to the program, immediately elevating the quality of the play. He brought us many good, memorable moments over the years, including even when he was battling cancer and we weren't sure he was going to make it. He brought us Jimmer by altering the his own scheme to better fit Jimmer's talents.

As with all good coaches, eventually the pressure of fan expectations, the demands of administrators and boosters, the sometimes subtle disobedience of entitled players, the ever-changing nature of the game and implementation of new strategies, the harsh grind of recruiting teenagers, the loss of role players seeking more playing time, the constant churning of your best assistant coaches to better opportunities, the demands of pushy vendors who leverage their lower cost position, the incessant post-event micro-analysis of every move coaches or players make during the real-time heat of the battle by smug know-it-all sports media who have the luxury of taking their time to analyze situations, the travel schedules, the long hours away from family etc. all wear down the coach.

In hindsight, Coach Rose was probably getting tired, worn out after fighting for his life on top of all the other demands that come with his chosen profession. He needed to step away. But please remember the many good things he did for our team. Please be grateful for his efforts and the impeccable way he was a classy ambassador for our school. He was truly not only a good coach, but an excellent example of a believer of our faith.

I propose that we stop comparing him to our new coach, who is bringing out the best in the players that Dave Rose assembled before moving on. Let's learn to appreciate each coach for what they brought, and bring, and let go of the temptation to compare our old loyal coaches with the young, energetic coaches.
