Also, Baseball Prospectus studied it and found that it provided almost no Net benefit because when they got the signs wrong the hitters were AWFUL; statistically, the detriment to the hitters when they had the sign wrong was so much more significant than the benefit when it was right that the cheating was essentially a wash statistically.
Of course it was cheating and they should be punished, but it’s naive and unsupported by the evidence that this provided some massive benefit. There’s a reason why they stopped doing it in mid-2018.
