Yep, that's the main difference.
Of course Gonzaga wanted an undefeated season, but it didn't matter THAT much in the grand scheme of things. They still ended up as a #1 seed (IIRC). BYU wasn't gonna advance in the tournament (I forget what happened that year or if we even made the tourney)
