BYU has had relatively high levels of success over the course of more than half a century, spanning multiple coaches. Gonzaga has had a much higher level of success, but over just 2 decades with only one coach. After Coach Pope and Coach Few are long gone, who will have greater long term success? Has Coach Few built up a program and culture that will continue after he leaves, or is the success more to do with his excellence as a coach.
I’m sure Gonzaga will continue at a higher level than BYU given the way the entire BBall program has been elevated, but it seems unlikely the next coach will be as good as Few. Maybe BYU catches up to them a bit.
