Tommy Lloyd is the heir apparent and big part of their success with recruiting.
They aren't going anywhere. Our year-to-year ceiling is decidedly lower than Gonzaga who are now truly elite and have been for a while now (and now getting elite recruits), but I absolutely believe Mark Pope can do for BYU basketball what Few has done with Gonzaga (not necessarily to that level obviously, but in a way that makes us relevant and competitive) — except Pope's 'starting point' is WAY higher with MUCH greater resources (Gonzaga started with absolutely nothing). We all know the limitations but I don't think those have to get in the way of being competitive. College basketball programs are all about coaching — not so much the x's and o's but program and culture building. Pope can do something special here and I hope he has that vision and drive to win HERE, compete for titles HERE. It would take a special coach and I believe he could be that.
