I hope that BYU didn't officially ask this. The clause is clearly for personal
hardship. Pay your rent or ask for an extension. If you got sick from COVID-19 then the clause applies.

This isn't for landlords to figure out.

Another solution would be BYU paying all of the rents. This is unfair to ask the landlords to pay. Sending the kids home or encouraging them to go home was BYU's idea.

Full disclosure, I am a co-signer for my daughters rental and I will be on the hook through June for her rent if she can't come up with the money.

Acorn is right, this smacks of socialism.
