If football is impacted, the non-conference schedule will bear the brunt.
With campuses and fitness centers closed, players are not getting the workouts they normally do. If the closure extend into early summer, players won't be able to participate in summer workouts and conditioning drills.

They will need all of fall camp just to get in shape, let alone memorizing the playbook. Camps will not be shortened. If the current situation pushes the starting date of the camps, the non-conference schedule will be impacted.

Camp is still 4 months away but the power conferences will be looking at the possibility of a shortened season and collaborating on the details so that every conference plays the same number of games.

Eliminating the non-conference schedule would be costly for the P5 and devastating for those FBS and FCS teams who depend on the money games against P5s.

It would wreak havoc with BYU's schedule. Each of the five P5, on the schedule, only play three non-conference games - not much room to maneuver.

ADs, primarily those non-P5s who were trying to adjust their budgets to compensate for less revenue stemming from the cancellation of conference championships and all spring sports, yesterday were dealt a further blow when the NCAA announced it would only distribute $225M instead of the anticipated $600M. Losing guaranteed income that comes from playing P5 teams will add to their burden.
