For this... This statement doesn't have ANY truth to it.
What if the pandemic caused uncontrollable diarrhea? Or constipation? What if it attacked the nervous system? What if it caused blood infections? Etc etc.
There is no way to prepare for every possible outbreak and no nation or even individual hospital is prepared for that.
Not only are there not enough ventilators, there aren't enough medical professionals. Do you proposed we just employ hundreds of thousands of people to just be ready when needed for an unknown calamity?
Look around the world at countries who are struggling and losing to this right now and tell me if they have socialized medicine... Spain, Italy, China... check check check.
Oops.
In fact there may be an argument that those countries were LESS prepared because of it.
And in the US, what has worked well and what hasn't in our response? Government bureaucracy has slowed the availability of tests, has failed to respond in a timely fashion to quarantine and will even slow a possible cure.
Yet free enterprise has created 15 minute tests, businesses who can pivot and make PPE, inventors and automakers who can retool and make ventilators quickly. Free enterprise is the only thing that is WORKING on a large scale.
I needed to read this statement this morning. I can't stop laughing. I'm not a boomer but this is the pinnacle in millennial uninformed and entitled whining. It somehow captures that whole spirit, with the only remaining piece being a plea to forgive student debt.
