My MIL and SIL have been absolutely bonkers when it comes to this stuff.

My MIL freaks out every time my FIL tries to go out shopping for food thinking that he is going to bring things home even though he's utilizing all the "senior" services for shopping. That's the understandable part, though.

She also says every food item has to be taken out of their containers and placed in other sanitary containers with the original packaging thrown out. She also sanitizes her house multiple times during the day - even when neither of them have left the house (again, not terribly extreme). But she's got herself worked up and stressed out that if she doesn't go to extreme measures they will get sick and is an absolute nervous wreck at all times (probably is feeding on my SIL's anxiety as well as shown below).

My SIL when she receives packages, lysols the box, leaves it outside for 24 hours, then lysols the box again, then pulls the things out and lysols the stuff inside and immediately disposes of the box as if it's still infected. She also called my wife and yelled at her for "allowing" her parents to go out shopping for groceries because if they do they will certainly get sick and die. (Of course she also literally yelled at us about not seeing my wife's parents any time soon a couple weeks ago because if we do they will die of coronavirus). She has also yelled at her parents that they need to lock themselves in their house and never leave because if they do they will get sick and die.

I blame them watching COVID-19 news pretty much 24/7 which has gotten them to be such anxious wrecks that they think the world is ending and everyone is going to die. This includes not only Fox News (which is on at my in-laws pretty much 24/7), but my SIL finding all sorts of stuff online that is IMO fearmongering stuff and then sharing it with her mom.
